2016-17 Panini Grand Reserve Basketball is a new premium release brand bringing lots of autographs,
memorabilia and inserts that use lots of technology.
With three packs per box and lots of hard-signed ink, the early details on this product tease the potential
to pull some major hits along with coveted inserts that utilize a variety of printing technologies.
With a name like Grand Reserve, can we expect anything less?
Base Set and Parallels
The 2016-17 Panini Grand Reserve Basketball base set has a total of 140 cards.
It starts with a 100-card main set, which is almost exclusively veterans.
Ben Simmons, who has an exclusive autograph deal with Upper Deck, is the lone rookie in this part of the set.
Rookie Cornerstones close out the checklist.
These 40 cards are autographs that have four pieces of memorabilia embedded in them.
The base versions of these are numbered to 99 copies while parallels come
in Quartz (/49), Granite (/25), Marble (/10) and Onyx (1/1).
The lone parallel for the main set is called vintage.
Inserts
Speaking of inserts, the non-memorabilia variety are going to deliver some distinct themes
and designs thanks to everything from great photo selection, micro-etching, and embossing – just for starters.
All Systems Go! comes once per case.
There is also Closing Statements, an attractive set is made up of five all-time greats who ended their careers
on a high note such as a championship.
These are extremely tough, only popping up once in every seven cases.
Autographs and Memorabilia
There are many new concepts coming to light with 2016-17 Panini Grand Reserve
and it all starts with the Cornerstones cards.
With four pieces of memorabilia and a hard-signed autograph, they will be numbered to 99 copies or less.
In addition to the Rookie Cornerstones that are part of the main checklist, Cornerstones has separate lineups
for veterans and legends that are inserts. All Cornerstones cards combine to fall once per box.
Team Slogans come with a special and unique patch.
They are be extremely limited with only one or two copies of each card.
It gets even more interesting with the autograph program in Grand Reserve.
The Ascent has an attractive and eye-catching design and only the best and brightest were considered
for the Upper Tier Signatures checklist.
There are also a pair of one-of-one autograph card sets to consider as well. One-of-a-Kind lives up to its name with its ornate borders
and black & white photography while Number Ones is a tribute to players that have been taken first overall in the NBA Draft.
